an ode to film photography...

Theres something incredibly poetic about the permanency of film photos. Whether it be polaroids, disposables or a vintage film camera, film photos capture the emotions of a moment better than any digital camera or phone. When you take a digital photo, you can easily take and retake the photos as many times as you wish. If your anything like me, you'll end up with hundreds of the same image, unable to decide which is the "best". With film photos, you don't have this luxury. Instead, you have to take the photo, the moment, as it is, embracing it for its imperfections. Lens flares, unfocused images and intruding fingers become part of the art. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm always thrilled to get back my developed disposables, and find it so entertaining to flip through my photos and look at the perfect little imperfections.

This year, when we went back to Malaysia for a trip, my sister and I both bought disposable cameras to bring to the Island with us. Here are a few of our collective images. I honestly love each and every one of these images. The memories attached to each picture will always have a place in my heart.

PERHENTIAN 2016

~

If you follow me on any social media, you'll know I recently returned to Malaysia for a blissful week of warmth, away from the cold and dreary weather here in Melbourne. We went back to our absolute favourite place; The Perhentian Islands. 

Our family love coming here, it has incredible diving, beautiful beaches and is a great way to relax for a week. 

It truely is the most idyllic retreat. Days spent on the beach reading and catching some sun, afternoons spent snorkeling and swimming out to the floats to lay and listen to the call to prayer. Always filling myself up with mango lassis, roti canai and kopi o. 

I am unimaginably lucky to be able to return to this place each year, and it's surprisingly, one of the places that I feel truly at home.

THE BABES ARE BACK

So I finally got my lazy self to edit the cute pics I took with three of my favorite people while I was in Malaysia. We had such a blast catching up and found a lovely white wall to take pictures against.

IT WAS OUR PLAN B...

If you've read my last post, or watched my last video, you would know that I spent and incredible week in Malaysia, soaking up the sun, and visiting my main babes. 

We had an amazing couple of days together, and although I wish we had longer, I am so grateful for these beautiful girls and incredibly thankful that I was able to go see them.

We got brunch at the last place we wanted to go, where we had to get our second choice meal (as they had sold out of our first choice) and had to eat at the worst table ( we wanted one with better lighting)

ironically enough, the restaurant was called Plan B

~ 

After brunch we shopped around for a bit, and then found a great white wall where we took tonnes of photos. If you want to see more pics check out my instagram @meghan.lewis

I had such a great time with these girls and it honestly felt like I had never left. In the end, we just couldn't bear saying 'goodbye' so we said 'see you tomorrow'  and pretending wed all be at school together the next day...

MALAYSIA | 2015

Hey Everyone,

As I said in my last post, I have just returned from an exciting break from winter in Malaysia.

I had such a marvelous time snorkeling all day and eating roti canai and black pepper chicken. 

It was so relaxing and I have come back feeling completely rejuvenated and alive.

It was also so amazing to see my best friends again, featured at the end of the video. I will have a blog post up from our fun filled weekend up soon.
