NYFW street style

Statement boots, shearling coats and immaculate layering
As much as I love french girl chic, there is always something incredible

about New York street style. There is an immaculate combination of layers and classic pieces, vintage and new, that is completely unique. I loved the beautiful combinations of textures and fabrics that seemed so effortless. The outfits always look so incredibly put together and classy, and yet they are so complex in their styling only the wearer could have made that outfit.
so here are a bunch of my favourite street styles from New York fashion week.

NEW YEAR, NEW NAME

Here I am, presenting to you the ultimate cliche of "new year, new me".
I chose to manifest this goal on my blog, by changing the blog title; something I have been wanting to do for quite some time.
My old blog name AHOY MEGS no longer felt right to me. I chose that name almost two years ago, almost immediately after I found my love for Instagram and blogs. I was kinda following what seemed to me to be a trend on Instagram as far as usernames went. It really wasn't me but it was really the best name I could come up with at the time.
Now two years on, I've finally decided to leave that name behind me and focus on something more....well.... me I guess.
One of my favourite bloggers, Emma Mercury of The Messy Heads, said in a post pertaining to names:
“Having a name is kind of like wearing a hat, from the day you are born until the day you die, that your parents picked out for you. There is a bit of personality, a bit of identity that you area always carrying with you, that even precedes you”

I never used to like my name. It was often misspelled as Megan, even by some of my family, and almost always mispronounced. Now barely get called Meghan, I'm mostly called Meg, Megs or Meggie, but over the years I have learned to love my full name.
This new found love of my name motivated me to use it in my blog title, so I whacked my middle name (Grace) on the end and decided I liked it.
without further ado... I present to you....

and you can now find my blog under the URL of
adieu ahoymegs and hello Meghan Grace

Melbourne With Meghan #1

I've finally returned from a month long blogging hiatus.
I had exams and then school camp, and then didn't feel any motivation to post, but hopefully I'll be able to get back into some sort of a routine over the summer holidays.
~
I thought it would be a cute idea to start doing some short videos, breifly showing everyone some of my favorite places to go around my city, starting with Chapel Street. I spend a lot of time in this little health food shop called The Nutrition Bar. The make amazing smoothie bowls and raw cakes, and it is a very serene place to sit for an hour, watching the people walking by. I always find so much inspiration from looking at the way people dress on chapel street. You always see such diversity in peoples personal style. Today I finally got around to taking my little sister along with me, something we have been planning to do for months now. It was a really lovely time and gave us a nice opportunity to chat.

FINDING YOUR PLACE

Moving back to Australia was hard for me. After living in Malaysia, where I had a defined place in a group of girls with similar interests and taste to me, being thrown back into a place where I felt different and unknown. As a new girl, I didn't really have an important place in a group. I struggled with this for the first half of this year, but after a while, I finally found my place.
I have been a new girl at school 5 times (yep, I've been to 5 schools) I think I've begun to become an expert at finding my place, so I thought I would share this stellar knowledge with you all, in the hope that it might help you, whether you are at a new school, a new job or any new experience.
so here goes... my 4 tips for finding your place
~
I
LOVE YOURSELF
I think we are constantly told this, by our parents, our friends and even now celebrities and the media, but I think we don't always fully understand what it means to love yourself. To love yourself isn't always about having the confidence in yourself to wear tight clothing or a bikini. Loving yourself, to me, is about observing everything about yourself, flaws and all, and being comfortable with that. Loving yourself is loving what you want to love. Not being embarrassed about the things you love, even if you think people will judge your passion for these things. Loving yourself is most importantly, about being yourself!

II
DON'T SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS TOO HIGH
This sounds really negative but, to be completely honest, it's something I have struggled with in the past. The likelihood of you meeting someone with the exact same interests and taste as you, as well as the same beliefs, and expecting to form an immediate and unbreakable bond with someone is unlikely. Possible, but unlikely. Instead of focusing on finding the PERFECT person or group, focus on smaller things like finding people who really appreciate you and finding people that you get along with really well. Find people who appreciate and accept your differences. Chose friends based on personality and how you relate to them. Our materialistic interests change and develop, and maybe as a result of your friendship, you will begin for form similar interests.

III
CHECK YOUR MOTIVES
I wrote about this in my journal and posted it in a previous post...
'I was talking to Jessy and Issy about how I think it is so important to observe your motives and decide why you are doing the things you do. Knowing what motivates you helps you to establish what is important to you and decide what is important in your life to help you be happy and reach your goals. It can help you decide what people and things are necessary for your and choose what dead weight to shed. We have the option to change anything in our lives and I think sometimes we get whisked away in the idea that "nothing is fair" and "we have no choice" we sometimes cease to realise that we are the conductors of our own fate.'
I think this is so important and I think about this a lot. Its so important to know why we are doing the things we do.
IV
LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
This is probably the most important thing to remember. It will be hard. It will take time. But if you always see the good in situations and rule out the bad, things will get better.

take a tip from sunflowers
and always turn to the sun

IMPORTANT

I am planning of changing my blog name, to what? I do not know. Be prepared for it to change in the next couple of weeks. I'll probably make an announcement on my instagram so follow for updates xx

NEW ZEALAND (september 2015)

Last week, I spent a blissful 5 days staying with my Grandparents in one of the wine regions of New Zealand. My week was spent visiting and revisiting the same op-shops (thrift stores) multiple times, reading frivolous 70s romance novels collected on my numerous trips to aforementioned op shops, drinking an average of 2.2 cup of black coffee each day, and listening to Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald on vinyl with my Granny, while she told me thrilling stories about her childhood.
The trip acted as a detox from technology and online life for me as my Grandparents don't have wifi. I was only able to acquire brief snippets of internet on our daily walk to the supermarket. I found I had so much time to read without the distraction of endless scrolling through unnecessary articles and random tumblr pages. I found I had more opportunities to connect with people and learn about the people closest to me. I'm not saying I am planning on extracting myself from all internet presence, but I plan to definitely cut down on the excessive use of technology. And spend more time with the people I love doing the things I love

BIRTHDAY FESTIVITIES

For my birthday last Friday, I thought it was a nice idea to invite some friends over, make a bunch of yummy food, and sit around and chat. It ended up being a really cold day which sucked but we had a lot of fun.
~
I also went out to get lunch and go vintage shopping in Fitzroy. We went to Radhey kitchen and chai bar, which was amazing. I had the most amazing day
~
JOURNAL EXCERPT :
'Relaxing your walls and letting someone in is the most therapeutic and healthy thing you can do for your soul and it really does heal you. We need to open up to people and be more vulnerable and share our insecurities so we can really understand people and bond with them on a more personal level. I was talking to Jessy and Issy about how I think it is so important to observe your motives and decide why you are doing the things you do.
I think I want to try and post some more thoughtful writing. I really want to encourage thought and even discussion so please comment your opinions and thoughts.

CHAPEL STREET

I love Chapel street.
It's honestly one of my favorite places in Melbourne. For one the shopping is amazing, from small little boutiques to big name chain brands like Topshop. The surrounding streets are adorable and you can find the cutest little cafes and eerily cool walls covered in graffiti.
This past weekend I went to Chapel street with a friend, with the sole purpose of seeking out Nutrition Bar, which sells the most amazing smoothie bowls. We both had the peanut butter bowls and they did not disappoint.
We sat in chairs by the window and spent ages just watching everyone passing, and finding style inspiration.
I spent way to much money on a pressed juice (which was amazing) and honestly had such a great day, so here are some pictures to commemorate it.

4.9.15

I guess this is a bit of a random post, as I don't really have anything to say about these photos.
I've been really lacking in the blogging department at the moment. I think we all fluctuate in and out of inspiration and ability to put our ideas into physical projects, and even though I feel very inspired at the moment, I am struggling to use this inspiration to create content for this blog.
I've got a few exciting ideas coming up though and I am really hoping they turn out the way I want them to, so stay tuned.
